Palace of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich: Historical and Artistic Reconstruction

The Palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich is a modern reconstruction of a monument of Russian wooden architecture of the 17th century, an example of a special style, the essence of which is in the combination of elements of the architecture of pre-Petrine Rus' and Western Europe. The palace is distinguished by a high level of mastery and decorativeness, due to the variety of techniques and materials. Called by contemporaries "the eighth wonder of the world", it has been preserved in numerous documents, memoirs, measured drawings, paintings and models in the archives and museums of Russia and Western Europe. The reconstruction of the interiors is based on surviving historical sources describing the artistic decoration of the palace.

A visit to the royal palace in Kolomenskoe is a rare opportunity to see the medieval ceremonial chambers and private chambers of the Russian tsar, tsarina and royal children. For guests of the palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, 24 interior rooms are open, recreated in accordance with archival documents.

In autumn, winter and spring the tour takes place on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 14:00
