State Rooms and Private chambers of the Kolomenskoe Palace

Kolomenskoe

Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, the second ruler of the Romanov dynasty, loved the ancient village of Kolomenskoye so much that at the height of his success in foreign and domestic policy, he ordered a country ceremonial residence to be built there. Its heart was a fabulous wooden palace built by order of the Tsar, which Hieromonk Simeon Polotsky called "the eighth wonder of the world".

The suite of luxurious, shining with gold, ceremonial chambers gives way to the much more modest personal chambers of the Tsar, whose working day began at 4 o'clock in the morning and was filled with work and care, prayer and fun. "There is a time for work and an hour for play" - this is not a folk proverb. These words belong to Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich - a hard worker and an exemplary family man.
