The island of sovereign women

Izmailovo

In the XVII – XVIII centuries, the tsars and their family frequented the country residence on the Izmailovo Island. It was a place of rest for many well-known women of the time – for example, Tsarina Natalia Naryshkina, mother of Peter I, and his half-sister Sofia famous for her political ambitions. The Empress-to-be Anna spent here her childhood and Empress Elisabeth favored much the Izmailovo hunting grounds. That is just a short list of the women rulers who have ever visited this country residence comparable to the Garden of Eden!

On the tour you will find out the history of the Izmailovo residence. The guide will tell you about the everyday life of the Russian tsarinas and empresses, their habits, favorite pastimes as well as upbringing and education of their daughters – tsarevnas. A special accent will be made on women’s dresses of the epoch and the radical change in their style after the reforms of Peter I.

Please note that in addition to the tour service, you should buy an entrance ticket to the ‘Izmailovo – a XVII century royal patrimony’ exhibition.

We will be glad to organize this tour any time convenient for you, for a group of up to 30 people – prebook the tour.
