Postage Stamp
For the centenary of the museum-reserve, the Marka publishing house issued a postage stamp depicting the Church of the Ascension of the Lord, the main architectural masterpiece of Kolomenskoe
According to legend, the Church of the Ascension of the Lord was erected by order of Vasily III in honor of the birth of the long-awaited heir - the future Tsar Ivan IV. Scientists suggest that the architect was the Italian Pietro Annibale, or Petrok Malaya, as he was called in Russia. It is not known exactly how long the construction took, but by 1532 the work was completed, and the church was consecrated in the presence of the Grand Duke and his family.
The structure differs significantly from other architectural monuments of its time. The upward movement is saturated with both the external appearance and the interior, where constructive and artistic principles are closely intertwined. This is probably the first stone hipped temple in Russia. The church was built of red brick and decorated with white stone details. Until 1600, the Church of the Ascension was the tallest building in the Russian state. The thickness of the walls of the building, reaching 2.5-3 meters, can be felt by looking through the windows of the basement, where the permanent exhibition "Secrets of the Church of the Ascension" is located. Inside the temple is quite small, because initially it was a brownie and only representatives of the grand-ducal family prayed in it.
The Church of the Ascension is an outstanding achievement of world architectural thought. In 1994, the building was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The stamp with a face value of 150 rubles depicts a winter view of the Church of the Ascension of the Lord. In addition to the release, first-day envelopes were issued with a portrait of the founder and first director of the museum in Kolomenskoye, Pyotr Baranovsky, and a special cancellation stamp for Moscow was made.
On the stamp with a face value of 63 rubles, issued in 2014, an overprint was made - the logo of the century of the Kolomenskoe Museum-Reserve. The stamp shows a bird's-eye view of the Church of the Ascension in summer.
