Izmailovo: a royal patrimony and a paradise island

Highlight tour including permanent exhibition. Accessible for visitors with restricted mobility. 45 minutes, 12+

Base price: 3,000 rub (for groups up to 30 people, please book in advance)

One of the modern Moscow districts, several centuries ago, Izmailovo used to be a village not far from the city, where Tsar Alexey Romanov conceived to create a country residence. In the second half of the XVII century, Izmailovo, an old family manor of the Romanov boyars, was transformed into a beautiful country seat of the Moscow throne. The new residence was unusual enough to bring to mind the Garden of Eden: the royal palace stood on a man-made island and there was a menagerie keeping rare animals. Not far from the palace, an experimental household was laid out. It was quite ahead of the time with the grapes, melons and water-melons grown in the gardens and local manufactures producing rare and expensive goods.

The Izmailovo residence saw several generations of the Russian tsars: Alexey, Peter I, Empresses Anna and Elisabeth and many others. On your guided walk around the museum, you will learn exciting pages of this place’s history, see its old architectural sites and visit the ‘Izmailovo – a XVII century royal patrimony’ permanent exhibition.

Please note that in addition to the tour service, you should buy an entrance ticket to the ‘Izmailovo – a XVII century royal patrimony’ exhibition.

This class, partly commented in audio, caters for visually impaired visitors. The group may comprise up to 10 people.

The visitors will learn the Izmailovo Island history and study tactile exhibit copies – engraving of the famous boat of Peter I, St. Nicholas the Wonderworker icon, a ceramic tile made after a XVII century original and an elephant.
