Cook Chamber

Kolomenskoe

The Cook Chamber was part of the Sytny Yard complex. Kvass and beer were made here for the Tsar’s table. Some historians even compare production with the one of an entire factory.

The Cook Chamber represented the high days of palace construction at Kolomenskoe during the rule of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich. It was a two-story building with small square and cylindrical windows. The tops of the columns were decorated with corbels that had square panels.

This royal brewery was destroyed during the Patriotic War of 1812. In 2008, it was completely reconstructed: the masters replicated the décor of the Sytny Yard extant part so that it is difficult to distinguish the reconstructed building from a monument of the XVII century.

Did you know that…

  • The Cook Chamber was also called the Brewery;
  • Dozens of cooks and their assistants worked at this place. Every day they were ordered to deliver about 70 buckets of various kinds of drinks to the Tsar’s table.
