Horse yard

Kolomenskoe

The Horse Yard complex was recreated in 2005 from old photographs of the village of Sadovniki. The estate was based on historical buildings that are non-extant.

Today, the Horse Yard complex includes a manor house, a stable, a hayloft, a saddlery, a carriage shed for storing harnesses and carts, a levada (an enclosed pasture) for grazing horses and an operating smithy. The main building of the complex houses an exposition dedicated to rural horse breeding and the history of its development.

On a tour of the Stable Yard, visitors can learn the history of the origin and development of equine business in Russia, as well as the practice of breeding famous Russian horse breeds.

Did you know that…

  • After a partial re-exhibition, artistically decorated objects made by blacksmiths of different times were placed under the smithy shed.
  • Oryol and Russian trotters, heavy trucks and ponies are held in the stables.
