This is one of Kolomenskoe newly reconstructed complexes, evoking the village life of the late XIX – early XX centuries.

Smith’s Yard

Kolomenskoe

In 1884, there were two smithies at Kolomenskoe. Today, nothing has changed: one smithy makes part of the Horse Yard complex; the other one is located in Bolshaya Street.

The Smith’s Yard complex comprises two dwelling houses, the smithies and a shed. Its location on the village outskirts is not an accident: the smith’s involves fire and thus holds danger. In the smithy you can see a reconstructed working place with a functioning furnace where the master fires metal blanks before forging. Besides, at the present-day smithy you can visit a permanent exhibition, a master class or handicraft classes.
