0+Mermaid and Unicorn
KolomenskoeGreat Exhibition Hall, Palace of Tsar Alexey Romanov: bldg 69, 39 Prospekt Andropova (Entrance 3)
At the exhibition, we welcome children and their parents to explore our museum’s fantastic world together with fairy-tale characters
This interactive display at the Palace of Tsar Alexey Romanov will introduce both our young visitors and their parents into the unusual world of the Kolomenskoe Museum via fairy tales. You will meet popular Russian tales characters and will slip away for a while from reality to enter an imaginary world where the Water Mill on the Zhuzha Rivulet is home to mermaids, the mysterious Golosov Ravine is guarded by a unicorn and the apples in the palace garden have enough magic power to turn you younger again!
You will see popular fairy-tale images interpreted in the decorative and applied art, everyday-life items, painting, graphics, old printed books, architectural elements and even cloths (all coming from our museum collection).
Several tactile models of exhibits permitting to literally partake of the world of fairy tales have been created for this exhibition project. The Middle-Age door hinge and the horse-shoe have been replicated at the museum’s working smithy and the plaster model of Mikhail Vrubel’s ‘Lybian Lion’ mask has been cast by ceramists of the Stroganov Moscow State University of Art and Industrial Design (meticulous work that required about half a year!).
The riddles, picture-puzzles, tests and games accompanying the display will excite preschool children as well as teenagers. Exploring the museum items and completing simple tasks, our young visitors will discover elements of the Russian folklore and art, expand their knowledge on the Russian folk culture and see how it is developing at present.
